Originally trained as a High School Science and Mathematics teacher, I began working in Learning Support during 2014. I was trained in Learning Difficulties and attended professional learning around systematic, synthetic phonics as well as Read&Write for Google Chrome. Since I began teaching, I had become acutely aware of the high number of children entering High School without the necessary level of skills to read and write.
For numerous years I have been privately tutoring and providing professional learning opportunities for schools and paraprofessionals, such as Occupational Therapists. I also returned to post-graduate studies at Edith Cowan University, where I completed my Graduate Certificate of Education - Learning Difficulties. Parents and teachers have also benefited from my online information sessions to support children with learning difficulties. It is a challenging area to navigate and I enjoy bringing my expertise and experience to help get the right support for students.

Even though Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs, such as Dyslexia) are included under the Disability Standards for Education (2005), significantly less funding follows students with these diagnoses, and many schools do not know how to support these children to learn or provide effective literacy intervention.
I am passionate about being a bridge to help schools improve their practices and to make sure every child can learn and achieve with the right support. I also aim to extend this support past the schooling years, into further education and work places, so that these amazing people have every barrier removed to be able to contribute their talents and gifts to our communities.

So far, I have helped my own children through conductive hearing loss, speech issues, eustachian tube dysfunction, auditory memory difficulties, working memory & executive functioning difficulties, ADHD diagnosis, and Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome... and the story of their education and learning continues...
