Introduction to Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD is classified into 3 subtypes -

  1. hyperactive/impulsive
  2. inattentive/passive
  3. combined presentations.

According to neuroscience, the brain develops differently in children with ADHD and mostly impacts on the front and side of the brain. These areas are responsible for executive functioning, language and reading development. Check it out in the video...

Alphability & BDEFS-CA

BDEFS-CA Assessment details

The BDEFS-CA is a questionnaire completed by parents, carers or guardians to identify relative strengths and weaknesses for executive functioning skills. It also groups certain responses to create an ADHD-EF Index Score. These results are standardised and map the child compared to peers, indicating any EF deficits or ADHD tendencies.

BDEFS-CA is ideal for evaluating children between the ages of 6 and 17 years:

  • struggling with following instructions or being organised
  • demonstrating impulsive or emotional regulation difficulties
  • appear unmotivated or lazy
  • who are struggling with literacy, mathematics, social skills or learning in general
  • suspected of having a ADHD, ASD, or a Specific Learning Disorder, such as Dyslexia or Dysgraphia

Reports & recommendations

Each Alphability report explains the findings, draws conclusions on the strengths and needs of your child, and lists recommendations for home and school. This report is extremely useful to inform your school on how to support your child, plus can be given to paediatricians or psychologists to help with their assessment of your child's needs.

The BDEFS-CA is best completed in conjunction with other screeners and assessments available at Alphability to provide a thorough understanding of your child.

FAQs about Alphability assessments

Is the assessment online or face-to-face?

The BDEFS-CA is a questionnaire for carers to complete. It is advisable that a face-to-face or online consultation occurs to get to know the child and family prior to the report being written. If the BDEFS-CA is completed along side other assessments, then it will be face-to-face or online as needed.

How long does the assessment and report take?

The questionnaire for BDEFS-CA takes about 15-25 minutes to complete and is emailed back to Alphability as a photo or scan. If no other assessments are involved, an up to 30 minute consultation will occur to discuss your concerns and to meet the child. The report will be emailed to you within 3 weeks of the assessment session and a time can be booked to discuss the report with your family and/or school.

What is the cost of a BDEFS-CA and report?

The BDEFS-CA and report is an investment of $200 for your child's learning. As part of EF Coaching sessions, it is included at the initial stages for $50 with a one page report. If the BDEFS-CA is included with a TILLS and PsychProfiler screener, these assessments and report is $650.
