If you have found this section of Alphability, you are interested in supporting your neurodivergent students more effectively or you are concerned about the low literacy levels in your school. As a consultant, I can provide professional training or form a partnership to audit current practices to become more inclusive.
Introducing an engaging, online learning platform, filled with 30-40 minute introductory session videos on a range of topics around learning differences and evidence-based instruction. Upon working with the school leadership, goals are set to improve staff understanding in a particular area, certain videos are selected, and teachers embark on a personal (or staff small group), individualised learning journey. This is driven by a pre- and post-survey to look for knowledge gaps and then assess the effectiveness of the introductory videos after completion. The professional learning experience culminates with face-to-face, practical workshops, designed specifically to meet the needs of the teachers and students in the school. It is about time the ‘Science of Learning’ was available for teachers to learn as well. (See more information on the flyer below.)
As part of a partnership with your school, Alphability offers to mentor teachers, learning support assistants or other staff with how to support children they are working with who have learning difficulties, diagnosed or undiagnosed. This includes learning how to screen for working memory and/or processing difficulties to spot needs early and provide effective intervention.
Over a term or semester, the audit involves professional observations of classes, policies, resources and programs to provide effective and constructive feedback to better support students with learning difficulties.
Over a term or a semester, this partnership involves the audit (regular professional observations of classes, policies, resources and programs) and further support to teaching teams or faculties on how to write programs, assessments and class activities that are 'Dyslexia friendly' and differentiated across the needs within the specific areas. Combined with the online professional training, and face-to-face workshops, your school can work towards one of three levels of support for children who learn differently... Watch this space!
